Old Souls ...

Sometimes we cannot understand why some paths, some lives, go a particular way. Why do some people have so many struggles and hardships, and yet others seem to have so little?

The picture below is not of an exact person, I found it on a few site called PixaBay years back - but the resemblance had reminded me distinctly of a homeless man that I once knew well over a dozen years ago. I was working in a non-profit back then, and he used to come in daily looking for a coffee ... he would also round up bits of donations that people had discarded on curbs and bring them in. He had nothing but the clothes on his back and a bag that he packed everywhere but would still find donations to bring in ...

He was a nice man, friendly, a gentle man, and while seeing him almost daily, I never did not know what the conditions were that took him onto the street ... But there was something about his penetrating and intense eyes. It is difficult even now to describe ... his glittering brilliant ice blue eyes did not match this elder, hunched body in disheveled and unwashed clothes ...

I wish I had something more profound to offer here but the quote reminded me of him, as did the picture. I suspect that Trevor might be departed from us now after all these years, he was getting quite fragile and frail - but there was something about his presence and our little interactions from day to day ... Those eyes gave me the sense that I was in the presence of greatness...
